BUILT TO LAST

The Finish You See Is Only as Good as the Groundworks Beneath It

A driveway, patio or landscaped garden can look impressive when it is first completed. But long-term performance depends on what happens before the surface is laid.

Poor excavation, weak sub-base preparation, incorrect falls, rushed edging and poor drainage can all lead to sinking, cracking, movement, pooling water and costly repairs.

That is why Pear Landscaping Group plans every project from the ground up — with the right preparation, structure and drainage behind the finished result.

Driveway excavation and ground preparation before installation

Proper Excavation

We prepare the ground to the correct depth for the surface, load and long-term use of the space.

Compacted sub-base preparation for driveway and patio installation

Compacted Sub-Base

Strong sub-base installation helps prevent sinking, movement and uneven surfaces.

Drainage channel and patio falls planned to move water correctly

Drainage & Falls

Levels, falls and drainage are planned to move water correctly and reduce future problems.

Clean structural patio steps and walling with precise edging

Clean Structural Finish

Edges, steps, walls and transitions are set out carefully so the finished project looks sharp and performs properly.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need planning permission for my new driveway in Glasgow?

Generally, no—provided the surface is permeable (like our Resin-Bound or Permeable Monoblock) or if the water is directed to a lawn or border to drain naturally. However, if your driveway exceeds 5 square metres and uses non-permeable materials, or if you live in a Conservation Area (like parts of Hyndland or Bearsden), planning permission may be required. We handle all SuDS-compliance checks during our 4D CAD design pha

  • How do you prevent driveways from sinking or "rutting" in Scottish weather?

The "Glasgow Sink" is caused by poor sub-base preparation. Unlike budget contractors who only excavate to 150mm, Pear Landscaping Group excavates to a minimum of 250mm–300mm. We install a multi-layered, mechanically compacted MOT Type 1 foundation. This industrial-grade preparation is why we can confidently offer a 7-year structural guarantee.

  • What is the difference between Resin-Bonded and Resin-Bound surfacing?

Resin-Bound (which we use) is a mixture of aggregate and resin that is permeable and SuDS-compliant. Resin-Bonded is simply a layer of glue with stones scattered on top; it is non-permeable and prone to "stone peeling." We exclusively install UV-stable, bound systems to ensure your driveway stays vibrant and weed-free.

  • Can I see what my garden will look like before you start digging?

Yes. Every bespoke project at Pear begins in our digital studio. Our 4D CAD Visualization allows you to take a virtual walkthrough of your new landscape. You can see how different Marshalls stones look in various lighting conditions and how the levels will flow, ensuring you are 100% happy with the design before we arrive on site.

  • How long does a typical driveway installation take?

While site is unique, most residential driveways are completed within 5 to 10 working days. This includes full excavation, foundation laying, and surfacing. Our "Live Site" policy ensures that your home remains tidy and accessible throughout the build.
